Sebago Trails Paddling Co. is looking for qualified individuals who love kayaking and the outdoors, enjoy sharing our beautiful state through storytelling, and working as a team.

The Kayak Tour Guide position will be taking guests of all ages and backgrounds on tours through inland waterways, flat lakes, streams and small rivers – typically 2-4 hours at a time. Guides will be responsible for the guests safety on the water, teaching new skills, and providing a fun experience on the water. Guides will be responsible for preparing the tours prior to guest arrival, and organizing and cleaning gear at the end. 

Dates

Application Deadline: June 10th

Training: Mid June

Season: Mid June through Labor Day, with optional dates extending into the Fall

Time Requirements: Part Time/Seasonal Position Duties

Duties

  • Answer the phone
  • Maintain reservation system
  • Interact with customers in a positive and friendly manner – Enjoy storytelling, and sharing local knowledge with guests
  • Prepare and clean equipment 
  • Assist customers with basic paddling skills
  • Load and unload equipment on trailer
  • Deliver rental equipment to local cottages and launch sites
  • Take pictures and video on tour
  • Assist in planning, promoting, and managing scheduled special events throughout the season.
  • Assist with daily operations to the business

Essential Functions

  • Have the desire to learn, serve others, and make a difference
  • Willingness and physical ability to work on a variety of projects, which will include using power and hand tools
  • Heavy lifting, bending, and carrying up to 60 pounds
  • Walking and working across steep or uneven terrain
  • Working in extremes of heat or cold, as well as being exposed to biting and stinging insects
  • Ability to perform tasks as part of a cooperative team
  • Non-judgmental attitude, sensitivity to others, approachable
  • Responsible and reliable
  • Interest in personal growth and in participating in on-going training
  • The ability to operate a STPC vehicle to transport rental equipment

Qualifications

  • Registered Maine Guide License (must have)
  • Previous experience in outdoor recreation preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift 60lbs
  • Enjoy working outdoors
  • Enjoy working with customers
